Rolex Serial Numbers

Production year by serial number

Enter the serial number from your watch to find the approximate production year. Select your brand below — each maker uses a different system.

Where to find it: Remove the bracelet or strap and look at the case side between the lugs at 6 o'clock. On watches made before 2011 the serial is engraved directly into the case. On newer models it also appears on the rehaut (the inner bezel ring) and on the papers if present.

Numeric serials (e.g. 8234567), letter-prefix serials (e.g. V123456), and 8-character randomised serials (e.g. 3D4K9R2M) are all supported.

Important: Serial numbers give an approximate production year, not an exact date. Rolex produced multiple references simultaneously and did not assign serials strictly in chronological order. A serial number alone cannot authenticate a watch — always verify with the original papers, box, and a qualified watchmaker or authorised dealer.
